Back after a three-year hiatus, the First Choice Credit Union National Schools Quiz took place on Friday 27th of January in front of a massive crowd in St. Mary’s Hall, ATU Mayo Campus, Castlebar. Over 500 people were in attendance with over 50 teams competing. Teams battled it out in two categories, Competition A which was U-11 and Competition B which was U-13. The theme for this year’s quiz was “Get Your Brain In Gear” and the competition didn’t disappoint.
Questions covered a wide range of topics including geography, history, music, literature and sport, and it was great to see all budding geniuses rise to the challenge. 
In a closely fought contest, St. John’s N.S. Breaffy came out on top in the U-11 age group with Scoil Muire agus Treasa, Swinford in second and St. Joseph’s N.S. Derrywash in third place. In the U-13’s, St. John’s N.S. Breaffy ran out winners after a tiebreaker with Ballyvary N.S., followed by Gaelscoil Raifteiri in third place. In the U-11’s, St. John’s N.S. Breaffy and Scoil Muire agus Treasa, Swinford now move on to chapter level in early March, along with St. John’s N.S. Breaffy and Ballyvary N.S. in the U-13 competition.
The winning teams from Chapter level will make it through to the Grand Final at the RDS, Dublin on Sunday 2nd April 2023.
