On October 18th, 2018 First Choice Credit Union will join more than 68,800 credit unions around the world to celebrate the Credit Union Movement and the positive impact they play in local communities. Since 1966, First Choice Credit Union has been proudly serving communities in Mayo and now has a membership of almost 30,000 with assets worth over €200 million. In the past year alone, First Choice Credit Union has provided over €17.6 million in loans within the community. To celebrate these achievements as well as those of the global credit union movement, the credit union has planned a number of festivities to mark International Credit Union Day® at their head office at the Market Square, Castlebar. These include Free Crepes & refreshments for all, facepainting, CRC FM, live members cash draw, prizes galore and much more. Furthermore, in the spirit of giving back to the community, all proceeds from the day will be donated to Mindspace Mayo.
The celebrations will revolve around the theme of the ‘credit union difference’, putting people at the heart of everything we do. All credit unions remain not-for-profit institutions that operate independently. All credit union decisions on services, products and the future direction of the organisation are made at a local level, and in the best interest of the local membership. Credit unions remain a trusted and reliable provider of affordable credit in the communities they serve. In short, credit union members always come first, above all else.
