The 2024 First Choice Credit Union Schools Quiz took place on Friday 2nd of February in front of a massive crowd in St. Mary’s Hall, GMIT Mayo Campus, Castlebar. With a record 55 teams competing, teams battled it out in two categories, Competition A which was U-11 and Competition B which was U-13. Like all years, the competition didn’t disappoint.
Questions covered a wide range of topics including geography, history, music, literature and sport, and it was great to see all budding geniuses rise to the challenge.
In a closely fought contest, Swinford N.S. came out on top in the U-11 age group with S.N. Thoin Re Gaoith from Achill in second and Breaffy N.S. in third. In the U-13’s, Castlebar Primary School ran out winners followed by Ballyvary Central N.S. in second and Meelick N.S., Swinford in third following a “down to the wire” tiebreaker with Gaelscoil Raifteiri and St. Peters N.S. Snugboro.
In the U-11’s, Swinford N.S. and S.N. Thoin Re Gaoith now move on to chapter level in early March, along with Castlebar Primary School and Ballyvary Central N.S.in the U-13 competition.
The winning teams from that gruelling competition will make it through to the Grand Final at the RDS, Dublin on 7th April 2024.
