The 2025 First Choice Credit Union Schools Quiz took place on Friday 7th and Saturday 8th February in front of a huge crowd in St. Mary’s Hall, ATU Mayo Campus, Castlebar. With a record 62 teams competing, participants battled it out in two categories: Competition A (Under-11) and Competition B (Under-13).

The competition did not disappoint, with questions covering a wide range of topics, including geography, history, music, literature, and sport. It was fantastic to see all the budding geniuses rise to the challenge.

In a closely fought contest, Swinford N.S. emerged victorious in the Under-11 category, with S.N. Thóin Re Gaoith from Achill securing second place and Scoil Íosa Ballyhaunis finishing third after a tiebreaker with St. Peter’s N.S. Snugboro.

In the Under-13 competition on Saturday, S.N. Thóin Re Gaoith claimed top spot, taking home the Justin Guthrie Perpetual Cup for first place. A tiebreaker was required to decide second and third place, with Swinford N.S. winning out to take second and St. Peter’s N.S. Snugboro finishing third.

Both teams from Swinford N.S. and S.N. Thoin Ré Gaoith will now progress to Chapter Level of the competition in early March. The winners of the Chapter Level will qualify for the Grand Final at the RDS, Dublin, on 6th April 2025.
